The coin holder is probably one of the most popular flags. It’s also one of my favorites to make, but was also a challenge. Each coin holder shelf is individually cut with a table saw, twice to make sure the challenge coins can fit on their custom shelf. Before the flag gets glued together, each coin shelf is glued and nailed to the stripe it belongs too. Then, once that is dried, the flag is put together. Two more small pieces of wood is glued and nailed on the back, along with one on the very top in order to put the picture hanging wire on it. Then polyurethane is sprayed on, at least two coats. Spraying the coin holders is easier than brushing it on. I’ve found brushing is harder to get clean strokes and less pile up of the polyurethane where the shelf meets the stripe. D rings and picture hanging wore is attached to the back, and the flag is complete.
